Wynn Bullock used photography to ask the deepest questions about life and the universe. He once wrote, "Searching is everything - going beyond what you know. And the test of the search is really in the things themselves, the things you seek to understand. What is important is not what you think about them, but how they enlarge you." In his quest for meaning, Wynn kept challenging both himself and his medium. As he grew in awareness and understanding, so did his creative expression. Because of the evolutionary nature of his art, examples of his imagery on this website have been organized by time rather than by subject matter. Within the periods outlined, most of the selected images reveal an identifiable stage of Wynn's thinking and vision. Throughout his career, however, Wynn made photographs that turned out to be precursors of a direction that he fulfilled much later. He referred to these images as "seed pictures". He also made photographs that didn't relate directly to a current course of exploration, but were appealing to him nonetheless. Both these kinds of photographs are included within their chronological groupings. Seen in its entirety, Wynn's creative journey was one of remarkable growth and change. The viewing galleries are intended to provide a meaningful context for sharing this journey through the images that both inspired and reflected it. Periodically, different sets of images will be exhibited to allow for a broader representation of his work.
