EDNA BULLOCK: THROUGH A DANCER'S EYE

Energetic, down-to-earth, fun-loving, generous, kind…these are characteristics that come to mind when thinking about Monterey photographer Edna Bullock.

During her 32-year marriage with renowned master photographer Wynn Bullock, Edna joyfully embraced her roles as wife and mother while pursuing her interests in dance, education, sewing, cooking, gardening, and handcrafts.

After Wynn's death, Edna decided to try photography for herself. She was 61 and, with typical zeal and commitment, she enjoyed a twenty-year career as image-maker and workshop leader with over 100 exhibitions to her credit.

Although her figure work – particularly the male nude – is perhaps her most notable contribution to the field of photography, Edna explored a broad range of subject matter with an exuberant love for life in all its various manifestations. Seeing with a dancer's eye, she created imagery that is intuitive and lyrical with occasional sparkles of lighthearted humor.

Her story, coupled with her art, forms a vibrant and inspiring legacy.
